Neelum Valley is a 144 km long bow-shaped thick forested region in Azad Kashmir in Pakistan. It is named after the Neelam river, which flows serpentinely down hills to merge itself into the river Jhelum at Domail. Domail, the confluence of two mighty rivers, presents highly fascinating scene of youthful embrace. The valley is situated in the north-east of Muzaffarabad, running parallel to Kaghan Valley. The two valleys are only separated by snow-covered peaks, some over 4,000 meters (13,000 ft) above sea level.

This is one of the most beautiful valleys of Azaad Kashmir, and it hosts several brooks, freshwater streams, forests, lush green mountains, and a river. Here, you see cataracts falling down the mountains; their milky-white waters flowing over the roads and splashing against the rocks, before commingling with the muddy waters of River Neelum. The geographical features enhance the natural beauty of the Valley. Its elevation, a mere 2,000 feet at the start, gradually rises till it attains a respectable height of 8,000 feet.  On a number of places, the local population has built rope crossings on the river. In Neelam valley there are dozens of beautiful and historical places, like Sharada Peeth in Sharda and Janawai town is one of the most beautiful and historical place in Neelam valley.  Jeeps and horses are available to reach remote areas of the valley.

The Valley offers Excellent scenic comeliness, panoramic view, towering hills on both sides of the strepitous Neelum river, lush green forests, enchanting streams and captivating circumventions make the valley a dream come true. The area is ideal for trekking. Neelum Valley is filled with beautiful and historic places, such as Sharda Peeth. The most popular and most populated area in district neelum is jura, which is famous for its Bazar and its beautiful places and highest mountains. Other Popular towns and villages in the valley include Kundal Shahi, Jura, Athmuqam, Kuttan, Keran, Dowarian, Dudhnial, Tehjian, Kel, Arang Kel and Taobat. The valley’s major lakes include Chitta Katha Lake, Shounter Lake and Ratti Gali Lake.

The new roads allow Pakistanis to discover the snow-capped peaks, lakes and lush-green meadows of the picturesque valley. The valley is connected to Muzaffarabad by the Neelam Road, which leads up to Kel. In the winters, the road from Keran onwards is blocked due to heavy snowfall, making it difficult to reach the upper parts of the valley.
